I have read people’s blogs over the past fifteen years of our blog culture and had many mixed feelings. Why expose myself, my life, my secrets? What could I write about, and why would it be important? I have experimented with class blogs and other formats for students to write and share work and have attempted blogging myself.
I am here now because I need a place to organize my thoughts as an educator. A place to support others and share the unique and shared journey I am going through. I also need a place to write and hold myself accountable.
Throughout my years as a teacher, I have learned and experimented, and failed and succeeded. Most of all I have felt exhausted and stretched.
I am currently stepping out of my classroom to support teachers. This is a new role for me and I am learning a lot. Most of all, I am learning that teaching, and especially teaching Middle School, is hard, everywhere. It is exhilarating and exciting and most of all it is really, really important work. At the end of the day, no matter how the Middle School teacher feels, those kids are still there needing them to be back another day.
So, this is my space to share what that work is, what it entails and most importantly how I hope to bridge the different areas of my teaching career; language, social justice, reading, writing and bilingualism. I welcome productive feedback, that promotes an increase in student learning. I also welcome the support of equitable education for all, and the promotion of linguistic and cultural plurality in our schools and community.
This is my first time using wordpress, so be patient as I learn.
